MVHS EAST

Welcome to Mountain View High School EAST’s Website. Web-designers are: Darren, Emily, Grant, and Yvonne.  This is the third year for our EAST Program at MVHS.  Students who take EAST (Environmental And Spatial Technology) perform service-learning projects and work in a student-centered classroom; not with a teacher, but  a facilitator, Mrs. Smith.  We are all about helping out our community.  We see problems that need to be improved/fixed and take care of them using the latest in technology.  Giving us access to these tools has an awesome effect on our town, county, state, nation, and the entire world!  If you have any ideas or suggestions for future projects we would be happy to help!

What is EAST?

The EAST Initiative is a nonprofit organization that provides new ways of learning for modern students.

EAST focuses on student-driven service projects through the use of the latest in technology. EAST schools are equipped with classrooms containing state-of-the-art workstations, servers, software, and accessories, including GPS/GIS mapping tools, architectural and CAD design software, 3D animation suites, and much more. Students find problems in their local communities, and then use these tools to solve them.

EAST’s focus, however, is not on technology itself, but on the unique learning environment of the EAST classroom. In EAST, students are responsible for creating their own lesson plans. There are no lectures and no tests; instead, the students are guided by an EAST facilitator (a teacher trained in the EAST process). This radically different approach to learning shows tremendous results – students are better-prepared for both college and the business world, and they care more about learning.

For more information on the EAST Initiative, including details on our training methods, our history, our industry partners, and the recognition our programs have received, please visit our introductory site EASTInitiative.org.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”
~Mark Twain
